Patriotic Songs Of America Lyrics

Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” aka “Proud to be American”—what do you think of this song?
I believe it’s a bad ironic joke to hear this song, the longer the war drags on. It’s such a slap in the face to send brave noble soldiers in a war that serves no patriotic purpose whatsoever, and was started on false pretexts (weapons of mass destruction, al-Quaeda being active in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq)
The song itself is sing-songy sentimental country pop—the very kind of stuff that makes my brain atrophy. Ouch! Rock out, already.
Lee Greenwood strikes me as a complete buffoon.
The lyrics are laughable and so untrue in Bush’s America, so even if this was reworked into something I like (a prog-metal jam in minor key, for example) it would still nauseate me.
Yuck.
I disagree. At the time the actual song was written, the Iraq war didn’t exist. Lee Greenwood is expressing his pride and patriotism by being all inclusive in his song, of the whole USA. I know several people that have been to Iraq and back and would have to say that you must’ve gotten your information from some very angry people, which are all too eager to follow the crowd since that’s the popular thing to do now a days. These people that I’ve spoken too, fortunately and obviously, made it back home to their loved ones and have expressed nothing but pride in serving their country. A majority of those interviewed on TV have expressed pride as well. While there will always be those that don’t feel that way, I personally feel the majority does. Take a deep breath and be thankful for what you do have, which at this point, is your personal freedom.
I do like the song and am very thankful to be an American.
